About The Flyers

The Prestonwood Flyers Swim Team has been an integral part of the community since 1973, offering youth opportunities to learn swimming, compete, and pursue higher-level competition, with many members earning college scholarships. The team promotes healthy competition, sportsmanship, and involves over 100 youth athletes aged 5 to 17, with strong parental support. Local businesses and individuals are encouraged to support the team.

The Flyers are a competitive swim team. To join the competitive team, swimmers must be able to independently jump into the pool, swim 25 meters (any stroke), and exit without assistance. For those unsure, an introductory course (Guppy School) is available to help children prepare, it runs concurrently with the first two weeks of the Swim Team Practices, if your child successfully completes Guppy school they are invited to join our competitive swim team.

The Flyers compete in the Northwest Aquatic League (NWAL), a large summer league with nearly 100 teams and 15,000 swimmers. The season runs from May to June, consisting of dual meets and divisional competitions, concluding with invitational meets.

The Members of the Prestonwood Forest HOA & Utility District take great pride in supporting the Flyers and pledge to continue to do so. The Association strongly urges local business owners or any interested private person or party to participate in supporting this worthy cause. For current team information, please follow the Prestonwood Flyers on Facebook!

Information on NWAL

The Northwest Aquatic League, or NWAL, has become the second largest summer league program in the nation with almost 100 teams and over 15,000 swimmers from ages 4 to 18. The core area of the league is located in northwest Harris County from Cypress to Humble but stretches as far west as Giddings, north to Bryan, and east to Crosby.

The NWAL season begins in early May and runs until the end of June. Teams are divided into a division with 5 or 6 teams and those divisions are contained within one of three regions. Some teams have as many as 350 swimmers while others only have 45 to 50 swimmers. Normally each team has five dual meets and then a divisional meet on week 6. The season concludes with several invitational meets.

FAQs

Does my child need to know how to swim?

We have a guppy program for novice swimmers that runs for the first 2 weeks of the season, however to compete your child must be able to swim across our 25 meter pool.

How long is the season?

Practices begin April 22 and the regular season ends after our divisional meet on June 14th. Swimmers may qualify for additional invitational meets based on performance, which go into late June.

How much does it cost?

$195 is the registration cost for the first swimmer, additional swimmers from the same family are $55 for the second swimmer, and $40.00 each swimmer after that. Swimmers 15 to 18 are only $40.00. The other cost is the team uniform available at D&J Sports that is typically between $38- $48. The uniform is for competitive athletes, Guppies are able to wear whatever swim gear they would like to.

How much time does this take?

Practices are available daily- please see the practice schedule for times. We understand it isn't always possible to make it to every practice but we highly encourage each family to attend as many practices as they are able to. To be considered for relay swimmers must attend 75% of practices for the week prior to the meet.

How can I get involved?

We are so glad you asked, we need your help! Each family is required to earn a number of volunteer points in the season. Volunteering for one "shift" which is half a swim meet for each of our meets will help you earn those points. You will be there to watch your child, might as well get the best view as a timer or scribe! We have a need for help with concessions during our home meets as well as other roles please do not hesitate to reach out to any board member to learn more!

I love this team, I want to help it succeed how can I be a sponsor?

Please find our sponsorship application under the sponsor tab
